Terms of Service
The terms that govern your use of WriterCV.
Last updated: 28 September 2026
The short version
- Your acceptance. By using WriterCV you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, stop using the service.
- Your privacy. You build your resume in your own browser, and a large part of the product never reaches us. Read our Privacy Policy.
- Your content. You keep ownership of everything you write. We take only a limited licence, and only to run the service for you.
- Payments. Core use is free. Pro is a subscription you can cancel at any time, as described in section 10.
- Dispute resolution. These Terms contain a dispute resolution provision. Depending on where you live, you may have rights that cannot be waived.
- Our content and intellectual property. You may not copy, resell, reverse engineer, or reuse our software, templates, or branding without permission.
- Disclaimer of warranties. The service is provided as is, to the extent the law allows.
- Limitation of liability. Our liability is limited, again to the extent the law allows.
- Contact. Questions about these Terms go to the contact address in section 24.
1. Acceptance and our contract with you
These Terms of Service govern your access to and use of WriterCV, the resume and cover letter service operated by WriterCV ("WriterCV", "we", "us"). Our registered address is WriterCV, https://writercv.com.
Please read these Terms carefully before using the service, because they set out your rights and obligations. By creating an account or by using the service you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use the service. If you stop finding them acceptable, stop using the service.
You declare that you are old enough to enter into a contract where you live, or that you have the legal capacity to do so. If you do not, do not use the service or send us any information. If you want a copy of a previous version of these Terms, ask us and we will provide it.
These Terms incorporate our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated by reference.
2. Privacy
Your privacy matters to us. Our Privacy Policy explains what happens to the information you send us, what never leaves your device, and the choices you have. It is incorporated into these Terms by reference.
The short version: you write and edit your resume in your own browser, and a substantial part of the product never reaches us at all. What does reach us, we use only to run the service for you.
3. Changes to these Terms or to the service
We may change, update, add, or remove parts of these Terms at any time, in particular to: meet new legal or regulatory requirements; comply with a court order or a valid decision of a regulator; introduce security measures or address new risks; reflect changes in how the service works; add features; improve the service; correct obvious errors, typos, or broken links; or reflect a change in the services we offer.
We will tell you about a material change before it takes effect, by posting the updated Terms here and by giving you a clear notice on the site or by email. A change takes effect on the date we state. If you agree, you do not need to do anything. If you do not agree, you can stop using the service or cancel, as described in section 10.
Correcting an obvious error, a typo, or a broken link is not a change to these Terms and does not need notice, unless it affects your rights or obligations.
We may also change or discontinue the service at any time, with or without notice. If you object to a change to the service, your only option is to stop using it. Continuing to use the service after a change means you accept it.
More substantial changes to essential features may happen for reasons including: introducing security measures; reflecting technical progress; adding or updating features; changing how features work and what the service can do; taking the maintenance pauses needed to develop the service and reduce the risk of failure; interrupting the service or part of it; implementing significant technical changes; and changing the systems the service runs on. We are not responsible to you or anyone else if we exercise this right.
4. Use of the service and your account
WriterCV provides services for creating, editing, exporting, and optionally publishing resumes and cover letters, and for checking how a document reads to a computer system.
To use the service effectively you need: a device with a web browser and an internet connection; an email address if you want an account; and a browser that accepts cookies.
These Terms apply to everyone who uses the service.
4.1 Visitors
You can use the guest builder, the document check, and the public pages without an account. Visitors do not get the full service, which includes saving to an account, sharing, applications, and version history, unless they register.
To serve each request and keep the site available, we use the request's IP address as a rate-limiting key. It is used transiently for that purpose, is held in memory only rather than saved with anything about you, and is not linked to your account, not used for advertising, and not sold.
4.2 Registered users and accounts
Some features require an account. A registered user is one who has created an account, or who signs in through a third-party sign-in provider. As a registered user you can create, save, edit, and share your documents.
WriterCV has a free tier and a Pro tier. Free accounts can create, save, edit, share, and export resumes. Pro adds the paid features described on the pricing page, which depend on the plan you choose. What is included in each plan can change; we will tell you before a price or a plan changes, as described in section 3.
4.3 Registration data
When you register you agree to give true, accurate, current, and complete information as the sign-up form asks for it, and to keep it accurate and current. You are responsible for everything that happens in your account.
You must not share your account or password with anyone. You agree to tell us straight away at hello@writercv.com if you believe your password has been used without your permission or if your account has otherwise been compromised, and to sign out when you finish using the account.
If you give information that is false, inaccurate, out of date, or incomplete, or we have reasonable grounds to suspect that it is, we may suspend or cancel your account and refuse current or future use of the service. We may also ask you to change your username or password, and may reclaim a username that someone else has a claim to.
You may not create an account for anyone else unless you are authorised to bind them to these Terms. If you do, you confirm that you have that authorisation, and we may ask you to show it to us.
4.5 AI features
Some features are powered by artificial intelligence. They include assisted review of your resume, importing a resume into the editor, suggestions and edits while you write, tailoring a resume to a job description, drafting an application message, and an agent workspace that can use tools on your instruction. Which of these are included depends on your plan.
AI features run through a third-party model provider. When you start one yourself, the content that feature needs is sent to that provider and handled under its own terms. We choose the provider and the configuration, and you decide whether to start the feature. If a feature needs a file from your device, it is uploaded as part of that request.
Our team may review, change, correct, or replace generated output, but we do not promise that it is free of error, omission, or bias, and we accept no responsibility for it. Nothing generated is professional advice. If you find output that is offensive, inaccurate, or wrong, tell us and we will look into it.
We do not use your content to train models, and we do not sell it.
AI features may be changed, limited, or withdrawn at any time. The parts of the service that run entirely in your browser do not use AI and are not affected.
5. Your content and the licence you give us
"User content" means your account information, your resumes, cover letters, applications, the files you upload, and anything else you put into the service. When your user content includes personal information we handle it under our Privacy Policy.
You are solely responsible for the accuracy of what you enter, and you confirm that the content is yours to upload. Do not upload anything unlawful, anything that infringes someone else's rights, or anything you do not have the right to share.
You keep ownership of your content at all times. However, to operate the service we need a licence:
- You grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, store, copy, process, transmit, display, and adapt your content only as needed to run the service for you, such as generating an export or serving a resume you have chosen to publish.
- You grant every other user a licence to use your public content to the extent the service's sharing features allow.
- Neither licence survives deleting your content or closing your account, except for copies we must keep by law.
You confirm that you have the right to grant these licences, and that your content does not infringe anyone else's rights or breach a confidentiality duty you owe.
You accept that your content is subject to section 7, our Acceptable Use rules, at all times. Anything you create entirely in your browser before you save it never reaches us, and we cannot recover it.
6. Deleting your content or your account
You can delete any resume, cover letter, or application from your dashboard at any time. You can withdraw a published resume, which removes it from the pages that serve it. You can add or remove the password that protects a published resume.
To close your account and remove your information, delete it from your settings. When you do, your profile, documents, version history, uploaded files, and sessions are removed from our systems.
We cannot delete what people have already seen or saved, so anything you published should be treated as public. Where the law requires us to keep something, for example to establish or defend a legal claim, we keep only that and only for as long as the law requires. We are not obliged to keep an account open, and if you breach these Terms we may close it.
We do not endorse or take responsibility for content you or anyone else uploads, and we are not liable to third parties for content that breaches these Terms or the law. We do not allow infringement of copyright or other intellectual property rights, and we remove content that infringes once the rights holder notifies us, as described in section 12.
7. Acceptable use
The Service must be used lawfully and for its intended purpose. By using it you agree to this section. If you do not agree to it, you must stop using the service.
You will not use the service to store or transmit anything that:
- Breaks any law or regulation that applies to you.
- Harms the service or its users, or overloads, damages, or interferes with it.
- Infringes someone else's rights, including copyright, trademark, privacy, or publicity rights.
- Is hateful, defamatory, threatening, abusive, obscene, or invades someone's privacy.
- Impersonates a person or organisation, or misrepresents who you are.
- Contains malware, or code designed to disrupt or damage the service or other people's systems.
- Harvests, scrapes, or bulk-collects content or personal information about other users, including by automated means such as robots, spiders, or crawlers.
- Copies or republishes our content, templates, branding, or design without permission.
- Reverse engineers, decompiles, or disassembles the software behind the service.
- Interferes with the service, or with the systems and networks that support it, including by probing for weaknesses, bypassing access controls, or distributing falsified software or stolen credentials.
- Uses the service in a way that damages it, harms its users, or breaches the law.
- Resells or rebrands the service, or provides it to third parties as your own product.
- Uses the public API or an automated agent unless the operator has enabled it for you.
You accept that you are responsible for everything you upload or send through the service, and that if a third party claims your material is unlawful, it is for you to show that it is lawful.
Repeated or malicious attempts to break the access controls or rate limits that keep the service available may lead to your access being blocked. We may cooperate with law enforcement and report suspicious activity, where the law requires or permits it.
We do not review your content before you upload it, but we may do so afterwards at our discretion. Breaches of this section can be reported to legal@writercv.com.
8. Pro and additional features
We may add features beyond the core service, offered on a Pro tier. Additional features are provided as they are offered and when you choose to use them, and some may come with their own additional terms which we will show you before you use them. If additional terms conflict with these Terms, the additional terms win for that feature.
Some of these features use third-party services, such as an AI model provider. When you use one, the third party's terms also apply to that interaction.
9. Payments and subscriptions
Core use of the Service is free, and some features are available without a subscription. Paid features are offered on a Pro subscription, described on the pricing page.
When you subscribe, you authorise us to charge the payment method you provide for the amount and the billing period shown at checkout, and to renew it automatically at each period until you cancel. We will tell you the price, what the plan includes, and the billing period before you commit to anything. We may change a price with notice before it takes effect, and you may cancel before a new price applies.
Third-party payment providers may store your payment details to process the charge. We do not see or store your full card number. Taxes that apply, and any charge your bank or card issuer applies, are your responsibility. We do not refund except where the law requires it or where we say otherwise.
10. Cancelling and closing your account
You can cancel a subscription at any time from your account settings, or by writing to us. If you cancel during a billing period, the plan stays active until the end of that period and the remaining portion is not refunded. After that you lose access to the paid features, and your account stays open unless you delete it.
If you are a consumer in a jurisdiction that gives you a cooling-off right, you can exercise it within the statutory period by telling us, and you will not be charged for withdrawing. Send any notice to hello@writercv.com.
You can close your account at any time, with or without a subscription, and delete your information as described in section 6. Cancelling a subscription does not delete your account or your documents.
11. Our intellectual property
Except for your content and the content of other users, we own the service and all of the rights in it, including our software, design, templates, icons, text, and branding. The service as a whole is protected by copyright, and individual works and content on it are protected by copyright and by the rights of the parties who license them to us.
You may look at the service and use it, but you may not copy, modify, reproduce, republish, upload, transmit, sell, sublicense, redistribute, or create derivative works from the service, its content, or its software without our written permission. Resume templates are part of the service, but the documents you produce with them are yours to use freely, including commercially.
You must respect every copyright and trademark notice in the service. Names, logos, and other brand features that appear on the site are trade marks, ours or those of others, and are not licensed to you. This does not affect rights you have under mandatory law, including rights under Directive 2009/24/EC.
12. Copyright and intellectual property complaints
We respect the intellectual property rights of others and expect you to do the same. If you believe content on the service infringes your copyright or other rights, tell us in writing at legal@writercv.com and mark the message for our attention as a copyright or intellectual property complaint.
A valid notice needs to include:
- Your physical or electronic signature.
- Identification of the work you claim is being infringed.
- Identification of the material you say infringes it, precise enough for us to find it, such as the URL of the page.
- Contact details: your name, postal address, telephone number, and email address.
- A statement that you have a good-faith belief that the use is not authorised by the rights holder, its agent, or the law.
- A statement that the information in the notice is accurate.
- A statement, under penalty of perjury, that you are authorised to act on behalf of the rights holder.
If we remove material in response to a valid complaint, we will tell you. If you believe we removed something by mistake, you may send a counter-notice including your signature, identification of the removed material and where it appeared, a statement under penalty of perjury that the removal was a mistake, and your name, address, and telephone number together with consent to the jurisdiction of the courts where you are located. We may restore the material if we receive a valid counter-notice.
We will terminate the accounts of repeat infringers, at our discretion.
13. Interactions with other users
The service lets you publish a resume at a public link, which other people can then read and, if you enabled it, contact you. You are responsible for what you publish and for the consequences of publishing it. We do not review messages sent to you, we do not guarantee that anyone will reply, and we are not responsible for what you say or do in reply to them.
You are solely responsible for your interactions with other users. If you have a dispute with one of them, you release us and our affiliates from any claim, demand, liability, cost, or expense arising from it.
14. Complaints
You have the right to complain. Send complaints about the service to hello@writercv.com, including:
- Your identifying details, such as your email address.
- Which feature the complaint is about.
- What went wrong.
- Why you are complaining.
If your complaint is missing this information we may ask you for it, and if it does not identify you we may have to archive it. We aim to respond within 14 days of receiving it, and within 14 days of you completing an incomplete complaint. We may take up to a further 10 days if the complaint needs unusual work or we hit obstacles outside our control.
15. Disclaimer of warranties
The service, and any part of it, is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties and conditions, express or implied, including those of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
Nothing in the service is professional advice. Resume and cover letter content, formatting suggestions, and any automated review are informational and may be inaccurate. Review anything before you send it to an employer or any other party. You use the service at your own risk.
16. Limitation of liability
We are not responsible for a failure to meet these Terms where the cause is outside our control, including where you breach these Terms, where you make illegal use of the service, or where you give your account to someone you have not authorised.
We are not responsible for:
- Any damage to third parties caused by your use of the service in a way that breaches these Terms or the law.
- Any content you provide, including its accuracy.
- Loss of your data caused by external factors such as hardware failure, or by actions of others.
- Lack of continuity in the service resulting from causes outside our control, including force majeure and the acts or omissions of third parties.
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for loss of profits, revenue, data, or opportunity, arising out of your use of the service. Our total liability under or in connection with the service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or fifty US dollars. Nothing here excludes liability that cannot be excluded by law.
17. Indemnity
To the extent the law allows where you live, you agree to indemnify and hold us, our directors, officers, employees, agents, and affiliates harmless from any claim, demand, liability, cost, or expense, including reasonable legal fees, arising from:
- Your breach of these Terms, including any statement you make that is not accurate.
- Your content, or your use of the service in a way that infringes someone else's rights or breaks the law.
- Any claim that your content or your use of the service caused damage to a third party.
18. Investigations
We may investigate suspected breaches of these Terms. We may suspend an account while we investigate, and remove material under investigation, as we consider appropriate and without prior notice. If we decide a breach occurred, we may take the corrective steps the law allows, which can include closing the account.
We will cooperate with a lawful request from law enforcement or a court order, including revealing the identity of an account holder where the law requires it. By agreeing to these Terms you release every member of our group from claims arising from action we take in an investigation or in response to a lawful request.
19. Third-party sites
The service links to other websites we do not control. We are not responsible for their content, accuracy, or privacy practices, so please read their own terms and privacy policies before you send them anything. A link does not mean we endorse the site or have any relationship with whoever runs it.
If you follow a link, you leave our site, and anything you enter there is subject to that provider's terms rather than ours. We cannot vouch for the security of information a third party asks you for, and we advise you to be careful before sharing anything sensitive with anyone.
20. Compliance with the law where you live
You are responsible for complying with the laws that apply to you, where and to the extent they apply.
21. Electronic communications
We may contact you electronically, by email, by notices on the site, or in your dashboard, about your account and the service. You agree to receive these electronically and accept that electronic delivery satisfies any requirement that a communication be in writing.
This does not affect any right you have under the law of your country.
22. General
If any part of these Terms is illegal, void, or unenforceable, it is treated as severable and the rest stays in force. These are all the terms between you and us on the matters covered here.
If we do not enforce a right, that is not a waiver of it, and we can enforce it later. Our failure to insist on strict performance of anything is not a waiver of any breach.
A person who is not a party to these Terms has no right to enforce them.
23. Contact
We control and operate the service. For anything about these Terms, write to hello@writercv.com. For copyright and other legal notices, write to legal@writercv.com.
Our help centre is at https://writercv.com/contact.

4.4 Signing in through another provider
If you sign in with Google, GitHub, LinkedIn, or another provider, you confirm you have the right to give us the basic details that provider shares, such as your name, username, and email address. You can disconnect the provider from your account settings at any time.
Your relationship with that provider is governed by your agreement with them, not by these Terms. If the provider withdraws our access or becomes unavailable, the information it supplied to us stops being available. We do not review the content you keep in those accounts.
